Stone that lets light through
Backlit natural stone is a category of architectural lighting where translucent slabs (typically onyx, certain quartzites, and selected marbles) are illuminated from behind. The veining and crystalline structure of the stone scatters the light, turning what looks like a solid surface into a glowing panel. The result is a finish that reads as stone in the day and as a light source at night.

Why it has historically been rare
Traditional backlit stone installations used 2cm slabs mounted on custom light boxes built on site. The framing, gasketing, electrical and stone fabrication had to be coordinated by multiple trades over many days. That complexity kept backlit stone confined to high-end commercial lobbies and a handful of private residences.

What changes with engineered inserts
OnyxEon takes the same translucent stone and bonds it to an ultra-thin, UL-certified LED carrier sized as a flush-mounted insert. The entire light assembly is factory-built and crated as one piece. A single installer can drop one into a finished wall, ceiling, or millwork in about two hours.
